Fill Your Family’s Stockings With The Right Toothbrush! [BLOG]

It’s that time of year again!

You need some ideas for how to fill your family’s stockings, and what better gift can you give your loved ones than good oral health?

Our team at Perfect Smiles wants to help you decide how to choose the right toothbrush so you can hang those stockings with care and keep your family’s smiles merry and bright at the same time!

We also want to remind you that your family’s dental health is just as much about routine cleanings and exams as it is about proper brushing and flossing at home.

So be sure to schedule an appointment for your family once the holidays are over!

Fill Your Family’s Stockings With The Right Toothbrush!

You might be thinking that a toothbrush isn’t exactly an exciting stocking stuffer, but they come in all different shapes, sizes, colors, and styles, so you’re sure to find one to suit each member of your family.

Plus, you can’t just rely on the toothbrush you get from the dentist at your routine checkups.

Those appointments are normally every six months, and you should be changing your toothbrush about every 3-4 months!

Also, you’ll need to switch your toothbrush with certain bouts of illness, such as after about 24 hours of antibiotics when you get strep throat.

So if everyone is going to need a new toothbrush eventually, why not now?

We’ll help you choose the right one by posing some questions for you to think about:

What Size Do You Need?

This is a matter of adequate coverage and maximum comfort.

The head of your toothbrush should be big enough to cover the surface of your teeth, and it should be long enough to reach the back molars.

It also needs to feel good in your hands and allow you to maintain a secure grip for maximum control.

What Type Do You Need?

People might assume that the harder you scrub your teeth, the better.

But that’s not true at all. In fact, being too rough when you brush could hurt your enamel, as well as your gums.

The American Dental Association recommends using a soft-bristle toothbrush. It’s just enough to provide the right amount of friction to remove plaque and tartar, but gentle enough to not hurt your smile.

Do You Need An Electric Toothbrush?

People often ask whether an electric toothbrush is a better choice than a regular toothbrush, but studies show there’s no significant difference in effectiveness.

But make no mistake, an electric toothbrush can be extremely beneficial!

If you had problems with arthritis or other health issues that impede dexterity, an electric toothbrush would help you clean your teeth more thoroughly.

It’s also a great brush for the littlest elves in your family, young children who are just learning the ropes of oral hygiene who may not have mastered the proper technique just yet. An electric brush would help pick up some of the slack until your kids get the hang of it!
