What parents can expect for their child's first dental appointment is more of a tour of the office, and to get their child comfortable with coming to the dentist. We like to kind of go over the patient's home care with the parents, also their diet, and making sure there's water also in their routine.
We like to go over eating habits, their nutrition, and just more of getting the patient comfortable. So we're showing them the mirror, we're showing them our little alligator. So they get to be comfortable, and actually just show them what they can do at home.
For our youngest patients, their care may include:
- Friendly dentists who explain everything they do as they work
- Technology like air abrasion that repairs cavities with minimal sound, heat, pressure, and vibration – and without local anesthesia, so no needles are required
- Preventive treatments like dental sealants
- Heated massage chairs and TVs to make their time in our chair a treat
- Prizes after their appointments

The Best Way to Deal With Decay Is to Prevent It
While we use air abrasion to treat cavities as painlessly as possible, our goal is always to prevent decay before it happens. We recommend dental cleanings as soon as your child’s teeth appear. As they get older, we’ll teach them proper brushing and flossing techniques. We may also recommend applications of fluoride and/or dental sealants to prevent cavities.
We apply sealants to areas where decay commonly occurs, such as the chewing surfaces of molars and premolars. The thin plastic coating “seals” teeth, leaving a smooth, easy-to-clean surface. It’s completely painless; we just paint it onto the teeth.
